| Vindemiatrix |

| Mag. 3 | Virgo (epsilon) | |
| This name comes originally from the Greek
"Protrygeter" meaning "Grape Gatherer". Its heliacal rising was meant to begin the grape harvest.
In Latin it became "Vindemiator", but it is not known how it came to have its feminine ending,
Vindemiatrix. Possibly this was connected with the constellation itself being regarded as feminine. The star is also sometimes given the Arabic sounding name "Almuredin" which came from a garbled Arabic translation of "Protrygeter". | ||
